Dog: Skin cytology

The examination of skin cells using a microscope to diagnose disease. Cell may be removed from the skin by pressing a slide against the skin, aspirating cells with a needle, or scraping cells from the skin. A special stain can be applied to the sample and examined with a microscope to identify types of cells as well as organisms (e.g., yeast or bacteria).
